Where Dance Meets Community: SAADA at the Seattle Chinese New Year Gala

At this year’s Seattle Chinese New Year Gala, Seattle Asian American Dance Association (SAADA) presented both a stage performance and an on-site exhibition booth, offering a comprehensive view of our artistic practice and community-based cultural work.

The dance piece Kalavinka (Jialing Pingjia) is rooted in Chinese classical dance, emphasizing refined movement language, structured choreography, and an embodied sense of rhythm. Through cohesive choreography and thoughtfully designed costumes and makeup, the performance conveyed a balance of strength and grace characteristic of traditional Eastern aesthetics. The work received warm and enthusiastic responses from both audiences and fellow artists.

In addition to the performance, SAADA’s booth featured dance photography and visual documentation from our productions, while introducing our ongoing public programs and nonprofit initiatives. Many visitors stopped to engage in conversation, learning more about our mission to use dance as a tool for cultural connection, education, and community well-being.

This event was more than a stage appearance—it was a meaningful moment of exchange, allowing dance to function as a shared language that connects art, culture, and community in a public setting.
